Cowboys in the Caribbean??

In this peculiar error, a crew member in a cowboy hat somehow was not only captured in the background of a shot, but the error made it past all the eyes of the film-making professionals involved in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Of course, it’s understandable that even detail-focused individual pros on the set might miss the inconsistent t-shirt and cowboy hat, but LOTS of people saw this and all of them missed it. Eventually the random cowboy crewman made it into the film.

10 Things I Hate About You

The 1999 film, 10 Things I Hate About You, contains a pretty strange blunder. This is a teen romantic comedy, so it’s not a production where we’d expect the wild complexity of a special-effects-laden sci-fi blockbuster, but it’s still surprising this error made it past the director and editors.

In a scene where Joey is talking to Bianca while she’s trying to concentrate on her archery practice, Bianca is distracted and turns to respond to him. As she turns, she releases her arrow in an unintended direction. The arrow strikes a teacher and one student runs for help.

The actress playing the helpful student is still in the shot when she halts and looks back, thinking she’s out-of-frame already. Oops!

Sometimes the errors that make it to the screen have nothing to do with acting performance or shot composition, or wayward crew members caught in the background. In our next example, the shot was perfect, but there’s something totally out-of-place according to the established story…
